I'm sure by now that if you live in the U.S. you might be wondering
"what? a 74 dodge polara R/T??" that's 'cause this car was designed
and built only in Argentina. It has a "muscle car" look, actually
it looks a lot like a '69 Plymouth Roadrunner, but it has nothing
to do with it, is based in the A-Body, used in the Dodge Dart. The
engine is the classic 225 inline 6 used in many dodge models, with
a Holley Argelite RX 7218A carb, 8.5:1, 174HP @ 4400RPM and
34Kgm @ 2400RPM of torque. This was the most powerful 6 cylinder
engine of that time, with a single plate 10" clutch and shorter
relations than the previous model (1973 Dodge GTX):
1 3.09:1
2 2.10:1
3 1.45:1
4 1:1
Reverse: 2.67:1
Diff.: 3.07:1
The top speed (as tested) was 181Km/h in 4th gear making 0-100Km/h
in 11.5sec.
This model was made 'til the year '78, along with the Dodge GTX V8 and
the Polara Coupe. So that's it, now you know where this car came from;
for me, this was the best car ever made here, in Argentina.
